Re: Correct Firmware for SX6710

I appreciate the stock answer but do not appreciate that you automatically decide that is the correct answer.

When I attempt to login via the link you sent, I get a failed login although I am clearly logged in here which to me means they are two separate logins?

Also, from the little I read so far on the site, what you may be referring to would be to allow me to update the software/firmware directly online. As I said, this is a lab switch and not connected to the outside internet so that would not be an option. If you have a link with instructions for a method to download the firmware and install it in an offline mode, that would be helpful.

I did also ask if there is something similar for OS upgrades as well. Again, I'd really appreciate any pointers/links/hints that anyone can provide. This is my first Mellanox equipment and as I'm sure you are all aware, it does have a learning curve associated with it.

Thanks!

Since providing the software requires an active support contract (which your account/company has) - please send an email to support@mellanox.com asking for download links for software and upgrade instructions.

Really? Well that's something I wasn't aware of. I guess I need to start beating some bushes to find out if we have that still in place and who has the information as I was told it was pretty much just up to me to maintain.

Thanks!

Re: How to couple Connectx with FPGA?

Hi Michael,

Mellanox has Innova Flex card which is fit to most of you requirements.

It is FPGA plus Connectx silicon on PCIe interface card and it supports RDMA and RoCE.

Current generation of the card supports 40Gb per port.

Please check if it can work for you.

Thank you,

Vladimir

Not getting connection between 4036E switch and MT26428 adapter

Hi all,

Infiniband n00b here, trying to learn with some spare equipment I've inherited at work...

I have a Voltaire 4036E switch, which I have connected up to a Linux server that has a Mellanox MT26428 dual-port adapter via a 5m DAC cable. I factory-reset the switch, and have done very minimal config so far (pretty much just set the hostname.) I do not see any lights on the switchport or adapter, and the adapter status is DOWN. I have checked that the cable is seated properly on both ends.

I can see the adapter showing up in the server (in lspci output) :

0c:00.0 InfiniBand: Mellanox Technologies MT26428 [ConnectX VPI PCIe 2.0 5GT/s - IB QDR / 10GigE] (rev b0)

The cable connection is into port 1 --

root@dockerhost01:~# ibstatus
Infiniband device 'mlx4_0' port 1 status:  default gid: fe80:0000:0000:0000:0002:c903:0010:bf51  base lid: 0x0  sm lid: 0x0  state: 1: DOWN  phys state: 2: Polling  rate: 10 Gb/sec (4X)  link_layer: InfiniBand

Infiniband device 'mlx4_0' port 2 status:

On the switch side, I have the cable into port 18:

Mellanox fw useg on the top of Connectx-4 EDR 100G adapter's have been qualified and supporting PCIe3.0 x16 so it's a prerequisite

using other then X16 PCI-E, may cause card malfunction (crash, poot bandwidth etc...)

Where to find TILE-Gx user manual and driver/firmware?

Hi Admin,

Some customers are interested in SSL/IPSec acceleration in TILE-Gx product line.

Where to find TILE-Gx user manual and driver/firmware to download?

Any advantages against other acceleration vendors (i.e.: Intel IQA89501G1P5 )?

Thanks a lot.

Re: Which ESXi driver to use for SRP/iSER over IB (not Eth!)?

OK, 4 moths later, ESXi 6.5 released, and still no reply from Mellanox. As expected, previously working workarounds (uninstalling inbox drivers and installing 1.8.x.x) for SRP/iSER over IPoIB no longer work. I even attempted using 1.9.10.5 ETH drivers with my Connect-X3s and employing iSER, but, still, this didn't work either. Which means I have to stick to ESXi 6.0, possibly, until I decide to EoL my Mellanox hardware altogether.

Mellanox: what's your response to all this? Will there ever be a solution for RDMA storage for VMware, or you just decided it's not worth the effort?

ZFS on Linux seems to be very stable for me.

Bear in mind that with LIO you will be able to use SRP only with CentOS inbox drivers. If you choose to install Mellanox OFED, you will have access only to iSER over LIO. The only way to have SRP with Mellanox OFED is using SCST.

I actually conducted some tests comparing VMware storage performance of SRP over LIO/Inbox, iSER over LIO/Inbox, iSER over LIO/OFED, SRP over SCST/OFED and iSER over SCST/OFED. In all tests SCST/OFED performed consistently better than ILO, with SRP over SCST/OFED being the best latency-wise and iSER over SCST/OFED bandwidth-wise.

At the moment I use SRP target provided by SCST over the latest Mellanox OFED distro (3.4.1) on CentOS 7.2. The storage I expose is ZFS on Linux (some SSD, some magnetic).

Re: How to couple Connectx with FPGA?

Hi Vladimir,

thanks for your answer.

I've studied the product description of Innova Flex before opening the discussion. But Innova Flex does not support our concept since it is mainly constructed for packet manipulation/inspection. That means, data received via IB/Ethernet can be analysed and actions depending on packet content can be conducted.

In our concept, the FPGA controls external devices and accumulates device traffic into 40 Gbit/s traffic stream to be transferred via IB. Innova Flex is missing such functionality and FPGA input/output ports open for external devices. Direct coupling of FPGA data stream with IB is not possible.

But, once more, thanks for your reply!

Best regards

Michael

Hi Alexander,

Running in chroot may be tricky. Are you able to validate your Ip connectivity using regular perftest tool (ib_read_XXX, other tests)?

Hello all,

I'm new with Mellanox and I'm trying to connect a QSFP 40G AOC cables between 2 window servers 2012 R2 with MCX313A-BCCT and MCX415A-BCAT on each side. I've tried to upgrade to the newest firmware/software and they're still not connecting.  Does Mellanox has any soft of management software or tool that i can check to see if my cable is present in the ports of each servers?  Thank you in advance!

Hi!

ESXi 6.5 include RDMA support, but there is several bugs.

ESXi hypervisor embedded RDMA support that coworks VMware and Mellanox, but there are many advance will be required.

I think almost 2~3 years later they will support iSER and vRDMA properly.

Therefore ConnectX3,4,5,6 will be deprecated then new generation HCA will support it.

Mellanox always said that their product support everything, but only Linux support.
